Paper 1: Reading and Writing — 2 hours · 66 marks

Read 6 short texts (notices, emails, messages) and choose the correct answer (A, B or C) about the main message.
💡 Tip: Don't read every word — skim for the main point. The wrong answers often use words from the text but change the meaning.
Matching Headings
Match 5 paragraphs of an article to 8 headings (A–H). Only 5 headings are correct.
💡 Tip: Read the full paragraph first. The heading must capture the main idea, not just one detail.
Notes Completion
Read a longer passage and complete notes by writing a word or short phrase from the text.
💡 Tip: Answers come in text order. Copy the exact words from the text where possible.
Short Writing
Write a short email or message covering 3 bullet points set in a Chinese context.
💡 Tip: Address ALL 3 bullet points. Keep your sentences clear and check your word count.
Summary Writing
Read a source text and write a summary of the key points in your own words.
💡 Tip: Use your own words, not copied phrases. Include only the key points — no extra detail or opinions.
Extended Writing
Write a formal or informal letter or article covering 3 bullet points.
💡 Tip: Match the register to the task — formal for letters to officials, informal for friends. Plan your paragraphs first.

Listen to 5 short conversations and choose the correct answer (A, B or C).
